Israel fires warning shots into Syria as Gaza front escalates
Israel artillery fired a warning shot at a Syrian mortar position Sunday p.m. after a stray mortar hit the IDF Golan defense post at Tel Hazaka. It was the fourth incident of violence crossing the border from the Syrian conflict in 10 days. No casualties were reported. This was the first exchange of Israel-Syrian fire on Golan since the 1973 war. It backed up Israel’s warning last week that spillovers from the Syrian war would not be tolerated and would evoke a military response. On the Gaza front, Iron Dome intercepted a Palestinian Grad missile that was aimed at Beersheba after an Israeli air strike killed two Jihad Islami members of a rocket crew.
