Israel holds some 200 Palestinian suspects over kidnapping
Another 41 Palestinian suspects were rounded up early Tuesday – most of them Hamas, a few Jihad Islami activists – as Israel widened its sweep for the three kidnapped boys on Day 5 of their disappearance. As Hebron remained in lockdown, Israeli forces moved north into Nablus and Jenin, making arrests and confiscating weapons. Israeli and Palestinian sources reported five Palestinian stone-throwers were injured in Jenin and in clashes with Israeli forces near Nablus and Ramallah. In Gaza, Israel bombed four Hamas targets in response to rocket fire at southern Israel. There were no casualties in these incidents. “As long as our boys remain abducted, Hamas will feel pursued, paralyzed and threatened,” an army spokesman, Lt. Col. Peter Lerner, told foreign correspondents.
