Israel marks jubilee of Jerusalem’s reunification
Israel celebrates its national holiday of Jerusalem Day on Wednesday with this year marking the 50th anniversary of the city's reunification during the June 1967 Six-Day War. Festive events in honor of the occasion include a parade from the center of town into the Old City by tens of thousands of flag-waving marchers. Several thousand policemen were deployed in and around the area to provide security until the conclusion of the events in the evening. Ceremonies, concerts and exhibitions marking the holiday are being held all this week.
Also scheduled was a special session of the Knesset in honor of Jerusalem Day, with Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and President Reuven Rivlin among the speakers.
