Israel slaps $1m fine on US energy giant for excessive emissions

US Chevron-owned Noble Energy is accused of “severe violations of air pollution limits” at the offshore Leviathan gas rig, the environment Protection Ministry said on Sunday. A fine of NIS3.2 million ($980,000) was levied. The ministry also accused Noble of several violations relating to the operation of flare stacks at the gas platform opposite Israel’s Mediterranean shore. “Chevron will have to do its homework and learn the lessons of the blatant violations of Noble Energy,” the minister, Gila Gamliel, said in a statement.
