Israel to investigate source of UNWRA school shelling
Israel to probe source of the shelling Wednesday of a UN school housing displaced civilians in Gaza, which killed at least 16 people. The US and UN condemned the attack without citing Israel. An Israeli spokesman said: "It's not clear to us that it was our fire." It may have beenbe an errant Israeli shell, "but we know for a fact there was hostile mortar fire on our people from the vicinity of the school." He accused Hamas, which controls Gaza, of hiding weapons in civilian facilities and UN shelters.
A preliminary probed revealed that the three Israeli soldiers killed in Khan Younes Wednesday died when bombs, hidden in the wall of an UNWRA clinic they entered to disable a tunnel, went off. The clinic was used by Hamas to conceal the shaft of a terror tunnel, which the boobytrap was rigged to protect.
