summer time is a pain in the ass and should be abolished internationally.
“daylight saving” is not important anymore as there are LED lamps today which
are very efficient.
It saves more electricity to optimize on keeping food warm on shabat.
Every household has a plata (hotplate for shabat) of about 400W (300-600W).
This plate runs about 25h every week.
A 500W plate takes
25*500/1000
12.50 kwh=12500Wh
Lets say a flat has 10 LED lamps with 8W each (which is really bright especially at 6000K
as we like it in Israel)
12500Wh/80W
156.250h
So we can let the Laps on for 156h when we dont use a hotplate on one shabat!
So provided we can save 1h of electric light due to “daylight saving”, we have 156 days
of “daylight saving” compensated by not using the shabat plate for one shabat.
As the goish solar year has about 365 days we find:
365/156
2.3397
So nearly the whole daylight saving – savings are compensated by not using the hotplate for one day.
So compare your comfort:
not needing to set the clocks back and forth and the balagan about doing everything an hour earlier compared to one cold meal on shabat or a meal that was kept warm on a gas or alcohol stove.
So I would vote to stop “daylight saving” as it does not save anything but gives us some difficulty and balagan, especially as the goish world has different times for their “daylight saving”
If you have a linux or unix computer you can see in the config files for the time zones that Israel has a very sepcial time zone because of the daylight saving balagan!
Stop it!

Shabat Shalom!
Alternatively, use no electricity and simply sleep when it gets dark and have a sandwich.
Alternatively, don’t have even a sandwich. Fast at least one day a week. It’s good for your body and mind.
