Israeli security busts Palestinian sniper cell in Hebron

Four Palestinians long sought for sniper attacks on Israelis were arrested Monday in Hebron, after an intensive investigation by the Shin Bet, the IDF and the police. They are suspected of running a terror cell that targeted Israelis for long-range shooting attacks in the last four months. Found in their possession were a makeshift marksmen’s rifle, a Karl Gustav submachine gun and a homemade silencer, which were used in the following attacks:

  • Nov. 6, 2015, shooting from a nearby window, they injured two Israeli worshippers at the Cave of the Patriarchs.
  • Nov. 25, 2015, they aimed at IDF soldiers guarding the shrine, missed and hit a parked military vehicle.
  • Jan. 3, 2016, another attack on IDF soldiers guarding the shine, seriously injured a female soldier, and in a second attack a few hours later, wounded another solider.
  • Jan. 16, 2016, more shooting which with no casualties.
