Israeli security forces on alert for 40th “Land Day’

The Israel Police, Border Police and the IDF were on alert on Wednesday, the 40th observance of "Land Day" that will include a general strike in the Arab sector. Demonstrations and marches are planned in a number of locations in the Galilee and the Negev to mark a 1976 protest by Israeli Arabs against a plan to confiscate Arab land in the Galilee and expand the city of Karmiel. Security forces are being deployed to maintain public order during the marches and demonstrations.
