Israelis aboard coronavirus ship to be evacuated on Wednesday

Senior Health Ministry official Prof. Itamar Grotto told the Israelis stranded on the Diamond Princess cruise ship that they will be evacuated and flown home on Wednesday, provided no more test positive for the corona virus. They will all spend 14 days in isolation. Three of the 15 contracted the virus and were hospitalized in Japan. Another 99 cruise ship passengers succumbed on Monday raising the total to 450. Two chartered planes carrying 400 Americans, including 14 who tested positive after disembarking, left Japan on Monday. They were moved into a containment area in the aircraft. All the Americans from the “corona ship” will spend 14 days in quarantine at US bases.

Other evacuation flights have been arranged to repatriate residents of Hong Kong and Canada. On Monday, Australia announced that it would evacuate 200 of its citizens too.

More than 70,500 people nationwide have already been infected by the virus. In the Chinese province of Hubei alone, the official number of cases currently stands at 58,182, with 1,692 deaths.
