Israelis stream to the Western Wall for Tisha BeAv Lamentations
Worshippers from across Israel flocked to the Western Wall in Jerusalem Monday night and Tuesday, on the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av, for the annual day of fast and lamentation to commemorate the destruction of the two Jewish Temples. Israel Police and Border Police have reinforced security at the last relic of the Second Temple remaining after the Romans destruction early 2,000 years ago. They have also closed off the Old City of Jerusalem to traffic, following two weeks of violent Palestinian rioting.
Monday, the Palestinian Authority’s official news agency castigated the Jews coming to the Western Wall to commemorate the destruction of their 'imaginary temple.'
