Israel’s cabinet slashes state budget to cover deficit

At a special session on Monday, the Israeli government approved an across-the-board IS1.2 billion (app. $333 m) cutback over the objections of the transport, public security and health ministers. Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said there was no other way to cover the subsidy for after-school care and compensation for the victims of huge fires ravaging their towns out of the soaring budget deficit.
