Israel’s left-wing Meretz chooses MK Zandberg as new leader
In its first ever primary, the left-wing Meretz party elected MK Tamar Zandberg, 41, as its new chairman to succeed Zahava Galon on her retirement. She won 71 percent of the vote, handily defeating her rival Avi Buskila, Peace Now movement chairman, who netted 28 percent. The turnout among the 16,954 voters was 53.6 percent. Meretz has been in continuous opposition for 17 years.
