Israel’s rocket alert system upgraded, subdivided
The IDF’s Home Defense Command announced Tuesday the upgrading and precise regionalization of the rocket alert system across the country. The communities and districts threatened by enemy rockets will in future be named separately on television screens, if they come under attack, instead of being collected under regional headings as hitherto. The southern towns of Beersheba, Ashkelon and Ashdod, frequent targets of Palestinian rocket attacks, as well as other towns, will be split into neighborhoods in the event of a rocket emergency. The sirens will be heard only in the neighborhood or district specifically targeted – not the entire town. Home Command experts believe that the revised alert system will provide more accurate and pinpointed warnings than before, should the need arise.
