The Iwo Jima docks at Haifa for joint military exercise with Israel

The USS Iwo Jima, with 1,400 marines, 25 warplanes and three hovercraft aboard, was due to dock at Haifa Tuesday night to take part in the joint US-Israeli Juniper Cobra 2018 exercise.  The annual exercise focuses this year on improving defense capabilities in the event of a coordinated ballistic missile attack. There will also be separate drills, in which 650 US marines will take part, for enhancing cooperation between the US military and the IDF. The Iwo Jima carries amphibious craft for landing ashore of personnel and equipment while outside a combat zone.
