John Kerry overwhelmingly endorsed as US Secretary of State

The Senate gave the former senator and presidential candidate a 94-3 vote as secretary of state taking over from Hillary Clinton.  He gave up the senate seat he held from 1985.  The confirmation hearing for Obama’s nominee for secretary of defense Chuck Hagel takes place Thursday. It is not expected to go as smoothly as Kerry’s.
