Jordan won’t allow “sectarian militias” across its northern border

Jordan’s Minister of State for Media Affairs Mohammad Momani stressed Monday that the kingdom will not allow “pro-Syrian regime sectarian militias” to gain a foothold near its borders and will “take the necessary measures” to ward off this “strategic threat.”
He was referring to Hizballah and other pro-Iranian militias, which earlier this month moved alongside the Syrian army into districts bordering on Jordan while expelling moderate Syrian rebel groups.
The minister said that Jordan’s borders with Syria are also of interest to several countries in the region, the international community and leading world powers.
