Jordanian officer kills five, including 2 American trainers
A Jordanian police captain opened fire Monday on three Western trainers, two Americans, a South African and two Jordanians, at the Special Operations Training Center outside the Jordanian capital, Amman. Six others were injured in the attack, including two Americans and four Jordanians. The gunman, 29 years old, was killed during the attack, which took place at the facility’s cafeteria.
DEBKAfile adds: It is at this facility, the King Abdullah Special Operations Training Center, that US instructors are training Iraqi special operations forces to fight ISIS. The attack indicates that Islamic State operatives have penetrated Jordan’s armed forces and found a recruit ready to die in order to strike a Western target. It occurred just 10 days after ISIS mostly probably downed a Russian airliner over Sinai killing all 224 people aboard. It was not by chance that the murderous attack in Jordan was staged on the 10th anniversary of the Al Qaeda terrorist attack on three big Amman hotels, in which three suicide bombers killed 60 people and injured 115. That outrage was orchestrated by Abu Musa al-Zarqawi, commander of Iraqi Al Qaeda in 2005, who is held up as one of the great heroes of the contemporary Islamic State.
