Kahol Lavan and Likud in last-ditch unity bid

Likud and Kahol Lavan have still to overcome obstacles in their attempt to join forces for a national unity government. They sped up negotiations on Monday when Kahol Lavan leader Benny Gantz wound up his 21-day mandate for leading a new, post-election government. Gantz is to deliver a broadcast statement at 8:30 p.m. Monday night. The president denied him extra time for his premiership effort and declined to pass the mandate to PM Binyamin Netanyahu.
