Kashmir tension soars after India scraps limited autonomy status

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has signed a presidential decree revoking the decades-old special autonomous status for the Muslim-majority region of Kashmir. This brings all of the disputed Jammu and Kashmir region fully under New Delhi’s rule. The Pakistani foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi. denounced the “illegal” decree, as violating a UN resolution, while the president of the Pakistan-controlled region of Kashmir warned that the two countries could “go to war.” Communications were blocked and troops patrolled the capital of Srinagar on Monday; public movement was heavily restricted, and some local leaders placed under house arrest.  Israel, the UK, Germany and Australia have advised their citizens to avoid traveling to Kashmir and visitors there to leave at once.

In Germany, said that NATO needs missiles to strike at Russia.”Europeans are very vulnerable”: expert urged NATO to defend against the Russian Federation

In Germany, said that NATO needs missiles to strike at Russia

A German military expert called on NATO countries to modernize weapons to counter the entire “spectrum of threats” from Moscow. He particularly drew the attention of the European countries of the alliance to this. Russian experts also expressed concerns about the breakdown of the INF. At the same time, the Russian Federation is proposing that the US and NATO introduce a moratorium on missile deployment instead of this treaty.

Countries NATO should upgrade weapons, as of today, the alliance can not resist the whole “range of threats” from Moscow, he told the Süddeutsche Zeitung Expert German Society for Foreign Policy Christian Melling. First of all, he addressed his warning to European states in the organization. Melling is convinced that the Russian rocket 9M729 “within a few minutes can hit all European capitals except Lisbon.”

Russia accused the United States in the destruction of the contract

The Russian side called the United States the “grave-diggers” of the INF. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov stressed that Washington is solely responsible for breaking the treaty, and it is “incorrect” to place it on Russia. He also called for a broader agreement on nuclear control, in which France and the United Kingdom would be involved.

Russia blamed the breach of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles (INF) on Washington.
