Kerry arrives in Cairo, last stop in bid to drum up coalition to fight IS
On his arrival in Cairo Saturday, US Secretary of State John Kerry is to meet Arab League Secretary Nabil al-Arabi. Ten Arab states Thursday promised to “do their share” in the battles against ISIS, but none committed to contributing forces to military operations. Cairo too said that its support for the US-led enterprise did not amount to direct participation in combat. Friday, Kerry ruled out inviting Iran to the Iraq conference in Paris Monday, as inappropriate, since, he said, Iran was a “state sponsor of terror” and “backed Syria’s brutal regime.” Tehran referred to Obama’s coalition as “shrouded in serious ambiguities.”
