Khamenei appoints new Revolutionary Guards commander

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei announced Sunday he was replacing Mohammed Ali Jafari as commander of the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) since 2009, with Brig. Gen, Hussein Salami. On April, US President Donald Trump designated the IRGC, which is the main prop of Iran’s revolutionary Islamic regime, a foreign terrorist organization. The Guards are also in charge of Iran’s ballistic missile and nuclear programs, whereas it’s al Qods Brigades, under the command of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, is the arm responsible for “external” operations.
