Khamenei trumps moderates with wild card Ahmadinejad

DEBKAfile reports exclusively that Iran’s Ayatollah Ali Khamenei made a big show of seating ex-president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on his left instead of President Hassan Rouhani at the Ashoura ceremonies in Tehran this week. It was a warning in advance of the resumed Geneva negotiations Wednesday that the supreme leader and Revolutionary Guards were against Rouhani and Foreign Minister Zarif displaying untoward flexibility in Geneva for the sake of an interim deal with the six powers. The two were reminded that their moderate façade was tactical and behind it Iran’s nuclear aspirations remained unchanged.
