Khamenei’s letter to Obama is noncommittal on nuclear accord

The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday on private correspondence between US President Barack Obama and Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dating back to 2009. The last Iranian note “in recent weeks” responded to Obama’s letter from 2014, in which the president proposed that reaching a nuclear accord would lead to better relations and collaboration in fighting ISIS. According to the paper, Khamenei’s response on both issues was noncommittal. DEBKAfile: The White House released this correspondence to prepare the public for the disclosure that the US and Iran are already collaborating militarily in the war on ISIS in Iraq and to a lesser extent in Syria. This collaboration is discussed at length in the latest issue of DEBKA Weekly.
