Knesset dissolution bill set for majority in preliminary reading

The Knesset is set to approve the bill for its dissolution in the preliminary reading on Wednesday after Alternate PM Benny Gantz decided to join the motion drafted by the opposition parties, the Yesh Atid-Telem bloc, the rightwing Yamina and the Joint Arab List. The bill then faces passage through committee and three plenum readings before a new election can be scheduled three months later.

Gantz Tuesday accused PM Binyamin Netanyahu of forcing a new election. Netanyahu urged the alternative PM to take a U-turn and opt for unity to cope with the coronavirus emergency and its economic falloout.
