Kuwaiti ruler in Washington for talks with Trump on Qatar, Iran

The ruler of Kuwait, Sheikh Sabah al-Sabah, arrived Wednesday in Washington where he will meet with President Donald Trump to discuss the issues of Iran and Qatar. Kuwait is trying to mediate between Qatar and other Gulf states, mainly Saudi Arabia and the UAE, but so far its efforts have not borne any fruit.
DEBKAfile: Kuwait is also the only country among the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council that is attempting to mediate between Saudi Arabia and Iran. That is the reason why Saudi Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir strongly denied on Wednesday that there are contacts underway between Riyadh and Tehran aimed at a rapprochement, calling it "laughable".
