Landslide Crimean vote for union with Russia

No word was released on size of the turnout in the Sunday referendum in Crimea, in which 95 percent of the voters opted for union with Russia. The White House spokesman said the US would not recognize the referendum’s outcome since it was administered “under threats of violence and intimidation from Russia” which will face increasing costs for its action. The EU has scheduled a meeting for Monday to approve sanctions against Russia.
