Lapid demands Lavrov apology for “unforgivable” comment

Russian FM Sergei Lavrov caused outrage with his comment to Italian TV that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s Jewishness “does not negate his Nazism since Adolf Hitler also had Jewish blood.”  Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid slammed Lavrov’s comment as “unforgivable and scandalous,” based on historical error and “turns victims into criminals.” “We expect an apology,” Lapid said amid widespread condemnation of the Russian foreign minister’s words. Later, Lavrov added “The worst anti-Semites are the Jews.”
