Lavrov: Russia to expand military assistance to Syria if needed

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that his country will provide Syria with additional military aid and that the presence of Russian troops on Syrian soil is nothing new, considering the aid that Moscow has provided to Damascus for many years.
His statement followed expressions of concern by the US and some European countries regarding the nature of the Russian shipments arriving daily at the Damascus military airport on huge Russian cargo planes. Moscow had previously said that the shipments only consisted of medicine, food and other civilian aid.
