Lebanese man arrested in connection with British diplomat’s murder

Police in Lebanon reported Monday the arrest of a local taxi driver in connection with the murder of the British diplomat Rebecca Dykes. Her body, with signs of strangling and sexual assault, was found on a motorway outside Beirut Saturday. She had been out with friends Friday night in the Gemmayzeh night spot neighborhood of Beirut for a farewell part of an embassy colleague. She left the bar alone and is then believed to have been abducted by her killer. The Lebanese police do not believe the attack was politically motivated. The diplomat, in her early 30s, had been working for eleven months at the UK embassy as the program and policy manager for the Department of International Development. Before that, she had served in Libya.
