Polling stations open early Sunday for the first legislative elections Lebanon has held in nine years. Some 21,000 security personnel will be on duty at the 7,000 polling stations to ensure a calm process, while the army secures surrounding centers and roads. Areas of high “electoral tensions” are marked red on security maps.

As a young person, I seriously entertained the idea of leisurely strolls in the market places and bazaars of Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Israel. I had heard such wonderful stories.

Just another dream shot in the foot.
