Levin forges ahead on judicial remake

Answering questions from the public, Justice Minister Yariv Levin asserted on Tuesday that the sweeping judicial overhaul advancing through first readings in parliament will create a “more diverse” panel of judges, while minority rights will be protected by the Knesset. Answering the claim that the government would gain total control over the appointment of judges, undermining Israel’s democratic system of checks and balances, the minister replied that judges are often appointed by politicians in other democracies too.
