Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman told the London-based Saudi Elpah news site, “If Iran should attack Tel Aviv, Israel will strike back at Tehran and demolish every Iranian military site in Syria that threatens our country.” The interview was published on Thursday during the defense minister’s visit to Washington for talks with US defense officials. He repeated that Israel would not tolerate an Iranian military presence in Syria, “whatever the price may be.” Lieberman accused Tehran of trying to build a string of military bases in that country and arming them with advanced weapons ready for an assault on Israel. “I can’t just sit back and watch what Iran is up to near our Golan border and its support for Hizballah in Syria and Lebanon,” said the minister. “Any position in Syria where Iran is establishing a military presence will be destroyed before it goes up,” he said. “If Tel Aviv and Israel can’t live quietly, neither will Tehran. I don’t advise anyone to test us. We are ready for any eventuality,” he stressed.
