London police: Murder of British soldier Islamist terrorist attack

Two men were shot by armed London police summoned to an incident Wednesday in the east London suburb of Woolwich after witnesses watched a soldier being hacked to death on the street with machetes. Police have confirmed only that one person was killed in the attack and are treating it as a politically-motivated Islamist terror assault. The dead man is believed to be a serving soldier at Woolwich barracks. UK Home Secretary Theresa May has convened an urgent session of the Cobra emergency committee.
