Macron loses absolute majority in parliament election
After winning the presidential election, Emmanuel Macron was weakened by a 100- seat drop from his former 346-seat absolute majority in France’s parliamentary vote. Marine Le Pen’s rightwing Republicans LR came out with a historic 90 seats. Macron’s coalition will now depend on LR as well as the new left-wing grouping dominated by a young radical Jean-Luc Melenchon to govern.
