At least 13 killed in explosions at Aden airport as new government lands

One or more explosions and gunfire killed at least 13 people at Aden airport on Wednesday as members of the new Yemen government prepared to disembark on arrival. Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed said he and his cabinet were “fine.” Information Minister Moammer al-Eryani accused the rebel Houthi movement of carrying out what he called a “cowardly terrorist act”.

The new Saudi-backed Yemen government of technocrats was sworn on Saturday at a ceremony in Riyadh before Yemen’s President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. They flew on Wednesday to Yemen’s temporary capital, Aden. The capital Sana’a is held by the Houthi insurgents.
