Merkel takes beating in German state election

Germany’s anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany party for the first time beat Chancellor Angela Merkel’s center-right Christian Democrats on Sunday in a state election. The Christian Democrats dropped to an estimated 19 percent in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania, according to exit polls and initial results.
