Military coup in Sudan quietly ousts Bashir

Multiple sources report that heads of the Sudanese army entered the presidential palace on Thursday morning and informed Omar Bashir that he was no longer president after 30 years in power. Armored forces are surrounding the palace and the national TV station. The army chiefs say they will soon make an announcement. DEBKAfile adds: Demonstrations against Bashir escalated in recent months, sparked mainly by the hardships engendered by a worsening economic crisis. In search of foreign assistance, Bashir event negotiated secretly with Israel, while posing as its most fervent Islamic opponent.
