Minister stands by police chief‘s appointment after it is disqualified

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan refuses to accept the recommendation of the advisory committee for senior civil service appointments against Moshe Edri as the next police commissioner. The committee disqualified him on two counts: a meeting he sought with an attorney representing one of the people who filed a complaint against his appointment, and mistakes marring his record in previous police positions. The four-member committee was divided down the middle for and against Edri, and so the chairman, former Supreme Court Justice Eliezer Goldberg, had the last word and voted against the appointment. Erdan says he plans to overrule the committee’s recommendation and seek government endorsement for the appointment.
