Mixed Israeli city of Lod sees violent Arab rampage
The Arab rampage in the central Israel town of Lod was the worst outbreak of inter-community violence to sweep Israel’s mixed cities on Monday night. Masked Arabs burned down the Lod synagogue, firebombed the school, attacked hospital staff and city hall, overturned rubbish bins and pelted Jewish passersby with rocks. In the course of an Arab mob clash with Jewish neighbors, an Arab man was shot dead. The mob had hoisted Palestinian and Hamas flags. Police detained a suspect when they finally arrived on the scene of wreckage after ignoring repeated appeals by citizens for help.
