MK Shelly Yachimovich quits politics
Labor lawmaker, Shelly Yachimovich, former party chairperson and leader of the opposition, announced Tuesday night that she is taking a break from political life and will not run for the next Knesset. She wrote in her Twitter account, “I’m grateful for the privilege given me to legislate for the public and to serve in the spirit of my beliefs. I love the Knesset, but I’m tired of the too-long political season, which has become poisonous.” A prolific legislator, Yachimovich initiated 69 laws on economic, social, equality and governance issues. She refused more than one invitation by Binyamin Netanyahu to join his government as a minister.
