Modest funeral, copious eulogies for late chief rabbi dead of coronavirus
Only close family and chief rabbis attended the funeral in Jerusalem of former Sephardi Chief Rabbi, Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron, who passed away Sunday night aged 79 from coronavirus at the Shaarei Tzedek hospital. The rabbi suffered from underlying health issues. President Reuven Rivlin, Prime Minister Netanyahu and rabbis from all parts of the Jewish world mourned the passing of an outstanding figure.
The eminent rabbi was one of the 110 Israelis who have died of the coronavirus. By Monday morning, the number of coronavirus cases had risen to 11, 235, 1,815 of whom are in serious condition while another 1,689 have recovered. The Health Ministry also reported having conducted 7.680 covid-19 tests in the past 24 hours. Jerusalem tops Israel’s coronavirus table with 2,093 cases, followed by Bnei Brak with 1,888.
