Moon: Kim remains committed to complete denuclearization

South Korean President Moon Jae-in said early Sunday that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un had reaffirmed his commitment to complete denuclearization of the peninsula at their surprise meeting on Saturday. Kim was looking forward to meeting Donald Trump on June 12, he said. When the North Korean leader expressed concern about whether the US could be trusted to guarantee his regime’s survival, Moon conveyed Trump’s message that this would be guaranteed plus economic aid provided Pyongyang pursued complete denuclearization. Asked if Kim had agreed to “complete, verifiable and irreversible” dismantling of nuclear facilities, Moon said that the US and North Korea needed to work together for an agreement on the nuclear issue.
