More than 70 killed in Myanmar clashes with Rohingya insurgents
According to an official statement, more than 70 people were killed on clashes Friday when Rohingya insurgents attacked several police and military posts in Rakhine State in western Myanmar near Banghladesh.
The dead included at least 12 members of the security forces and at least 59 Rohingya insurgents, according the office of Myanmar’s de facto leader, State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi.
Rakhine is home to about one million Rohingya, a predominantly Muslim minority group which is repressed by the authorities in Myanmar.
