Moscow expels US diplomat charged with recruiting Russian spy
The Russian foreign ministry Tuesday ordered the expulsion of Ryan C. Fogle, whom the Federal Security Service detained on a charge of attempting to recruit a Russian intelligence officer. The FBS accused Fogle of being a CIA agent working under cover as the US embassy’s third secretary. Shortly after he was detained, the diplomat was handed back to the embassy in Moscow. The FSB was quoted as saying that when he was detained, he was carrying “special technical equipment and written instructions for recruiting a Russian citizen. There has been no US comment on the episode.
