Moscow: “Nuclear catastrophe” if US hits Syria

"If a warhead, by design or by chance, were to hit the Miniature Neutron Source Reactor (MNSR) near Damascus, the consequences could be catastrophic," Aleksandr Lukashevich said Wednesday in another warning against a US military attack on Syria. The region could be at risk, he said, of “contamination by highly enriched uranium and it would no longer be possible to account for nuclear material, its safety and control.” Such material could fall into the wrong hands.
DEBKAfile: The Russians assume a US missile attack on Syria might target the reactor area because important chemical weapons research facilities are located in the same compound as the small Syrian reactor.
