Mubarak testifies to “Gaza gunmen” aiding Muslim Brotherhood
In a rare public appearance, the deposed Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak, at 90, presented lucid testimony on Wednesday citing the report he received from Omar Suleiman, director of intelligence, that 800 gunmen had infiltrated from the Gaza Strip through tunnels to help the Muslim Brotherhood “foment chaos.” This was in the early days of the 2011 “Arab Spring” uprising against him. Mubarak told the court at the retrial of his successor Mohammed Mursi: “The infiltrators attacked prisons and police stations. They attacked squares and opened fire from the tops of buildings, broke into prisons and freed inmates belonging to the Brotherhood, Hamas and the Lebanese Hezbollah movement.”
