Mugabe ousted as Zimbabwe’s ruling party leader

Zimbabwe’s ruling ZANU-PF party Sunday removed and replaced President Robert Mugabe, 93, with former vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa, another big step towards breaking his 37-year despotic grip on power in the country. Last week, the military took over the ruling institutions in Harare, after his wife Grace was named as the leading candidate to succeed him. On Saturday, tens of thousands of joyous protesters flooded the streets of the cities to celebrate the imminent end of Mugabe’s long rule.
