All 176 passengers and crew were killed when a Ukrainian Boeing 737-800 jet engine caught fire moments after takeoff Wednesday from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini airport. Iran’s civil aviation authority has said it will not hand over to Boeing the black boxes found from the crashed airliner. Both were damaged but data could still be retrieved., it was said. The Ukraine embassy in Tehran in a second statement omitted mention of engine malfunction as the cause of the disaster unlike an earlier statement. It is feared that the Ukrainian Flight 752, which took off shortly after Iranian missile fire on two US bases in Iraq, may have been hit by Iranian ground-to-air missiles crews in mistake for a US warplane believed returning the attack.
