Naval Iron Dome goes into operational service

The naval version of Israel’s Iron Dome system for shooting down short-range rockets has gone into operation with the Israeli Navy, the IDF announced Monday. The Tamir-Adir system, as it is called, was declared operational after successful tests against Grad rockets (in service with Hamas) which were fired at the INS Lahav Sa’ar corvette and Israel’s offshore gas rigs. The Grad rockets were intercepted both as single shots and salvos by the the Dome launcher placed on the ship’s helipad and connected to its radar. The naval Iron Dome is designed to defend, ships and gas rigs as well as shore targets against potential attacks by Hamas or Hizballah.
