Nearly quarter of a million Americans face death from coronavirus

Even if the nation adheres strictly to intensive social distancing guidelines, still between 100,000 and 240,000 American deaths are expected from covid-19,  according to the statistical models guiding Trump administration steps that were released on Tuesday. The toll could go much higher if those measures are ignored.  New York City’s coronavirus death toll passed 1,000 on Tuesday, including the first victim under 18, as hundreds of additional paramedics, EMTs and ambulances arrived to support the overburdened health care system.
